IEH’s professional roots are linked to the Institute of Occupational Medicine, a research charity founded in 1969 by the National Coal Board to complete ground-breaking research on lung disease in coal mine workers. That research heritage shaped a wider mission to reduce health and safety risks in industry, including occupational hygiene, ergonomics and workplace health.IEH的專業根基與英國職業醫學研究院相關。該研究院於1969年由英國國家煤炭委員會創立為研究慈善機構，主要進行煤礦工人肺部疾病的開創性研究。這一研究傳承逐步形成了更廣泛的使命：降低工業中的健康與安全風險，包括職業衛生、人體工效及工作健康。
IOM Singapore was established in 2012. After nearly a decade of collaboration and partnership, IOM Singapore was rebranded as the Institute of Ergonomics and Hygiene in 2021 to better reflect its specialist work and regional role in ergonomics, occupational hygiene and workplace health.IOM Singapore於2012年成立。經過近十年的合作與夥伴關係後，IOM Singapore於2021年重塑品牌為人體工效及衛生學院，以更準確反映其在人體工效、職業衛生及工作健康方面的專業工作與區域角色。
Today, IEH focuses on helping clients address workplace health risks through consultancy, assessment, training and capability development.
